In Wichita, Kansas, a high school surprised a teacher before his deployment by using a homecoming pep rally to give him a rousing sendoff.
David Young, who teaches woodworking at Wichita South High School, will be leaving home for a year with the Kansas Army National Guard.
And during the homecoming pep rally, the students and staff -- along with David’s wife and two grown children -- surprised him with a celebration and a standing ovation.
David is scheduled to leave in a week for a year-long assignment in Kuwait.
The pep rally celebration was great way for students to see a teacher honored for his sacrifice, but also a lasting reminder for David -- so he leaves knowing that he’s appreciated back home.
